Pro-Lif-ik

Christopher Long (aka Pro-Lif-ik) was born in Helsinki, Finland in the 20th Century A.D. He moved to Indiana in his early childhood and grew up in Maryland on the outskirts of Baltimore. With a background in music theory he began playing piano at a young age, which eventually drew him into hip-hop during the early 90s. He began regularly writing at the age of 17 after dabbling with music at an earlier age.

He released his first project DaProlifik1, Vol. I to the public on YouTube in 2008, which was followed up by Vol. II later that year. In 2009, he collaborated with Beat Monarchs to create the album Last Days. During the same year he was contacted by Amsterdam’s Jointdale Records who produced Gotta Find Way, which included the track ‘316’. This song was also featured on the HipHop32.com/Tall-Order charity compilation album One Life Mixtape Vol. I – In Aid of Console. This compilation featured Kool G Rap, Rhyme Asylum, and Killah Priest. All proceeds from the project went to suicide awareness.

In late 2012, Pro-lif-ik co-founded Surgeonhouse Records with audio engineer Deafguerilla. After recording the 2012 Demo and the Ascension Mixtape, the two began assembling a massive catalogue of music.

In late 2015, Pro-lif-ik signed with Excitement South Entertainment in conjunction with Surgeonhouse Records for distribution and publishing purposes.

In May 2016, a promotional EP titled Devil's Diary was released and made available for free download. The EP is a bonus addition to the full length album Devil On My Shoulder, which is available now in CD format as well as digital download.

2016 will see the release of a lot of Pro-Lif-ik's material. These will include EPs, Mixtapes, Collaborations, and full length albums.

DJ Two Teks (Bang Bang)

Immersed in the hip hop subculture of the 1980s, AJ Naylor a.k.a. DJ

Mad Meg//The Escape Artist//COFR

Mad Meg is a New York based band which proclaims its style as “Punk Chanson Noir.” Having originally debuted in 2011, Mad Mag’s eclectic sound is colored by the ethnic and music backgrounds of its past and present members who come from Russia, USA, Mexico, Austria, France, Puerto Rico and Kazakhstan. Their musical backgrounds range from jazz to mariachi music, from rock to Russian urban folk, from punk to cabaret. The band’s songs, haunting and neurotic, possess a fair amount of debauchery, tragicomedy, and nostalgia. Dark and awkward lyrics paint a disturbing picture of a daily life of a lone urban-dweller set to the background of upbeat minor key melodies.

The Escape Artist is a Dream/Shoegaze/Post-Rock band from Washington, D.C. Made up of layered guitars, ethereal vocals and a steady driving rhythm section, their sound has been compared to "tunnels of light flowing through astral planes." The Escape Artist has been playing and recording for over a decade and continues to create musical soundscapes that are mysterious, enchanting, beautiful, and sometimes dark. Songs evoke images of tiny bioluminescent creatures floating in the deep abyss.

COFR is drum and keys music from Jason Cohen and Chris Frick

Emo Night W/ Blue Heaven

Emo Night W/ Blue Heaven

February 7th we’re getting real sad and emo at Cafe Nola. Come in dressed as your 14 year old self and take advantage of our drink specials.

Blue Heaven is what you would probably, most likely call a band. They basically play music. Very goodly I might add. 12/10 would recommend.
Blue Heaven is an indie pop band from Frederick, MD. From an interview with their drummer Matt Full: "When we first started the project we kept using the term “Dream Pop”. We wanted to write music with a specific alternative vibe in mind. We didn’t want to write mainstream pop music, and we also didn’t want to write specifically Indie Rock. We wanted to land right in the sweet spot between the two and write music that had the alternative influenced with the polished sound of pop. This is something The Cure accomplished long ago. They are a big inspiration to us."

Blue Nevada at work on new album

Los Angeles, CA – Psychedelic jam rock innovators Blue Nevada have announced that they are hard at work on a new album. Right after lauching the EP "Narly Trees" on iTUNES they are already in the studio again. The as-yet-unnamed album is slated to be released in the Fall 2011. Blue Nevada is culling the cream of the crop from its musical canon to lay down in the studio and then fire into the psyche of fans everywhere.
“My brother Shannon and I are always writing music,” confesses Dusty Corbin. “There is already enough material for seven albums and we always have some more in the works. We will probably never have enough time, in one lifetime, to record and release every song we write.”
This hard-working band has again and again proven its musical devotion with stellar performances on stage, not to mention the popular debut album whose follow-up is right around the corner.
Blue Nevada has played The American Roots Music Festival, where headliners included the likes of The Jerry Garcia Band with Melvin Seals and New Ryders of the Purple Sage. The “Local Licks” radio show on WAFY 103.1 FM gave Blue Nevada radio exposure and the show’s host included the band’s song “Rhythm Boy” in a “Best Of” New Year’s program.
Following the release of the group’s sophomore album, Blue Nevada intends to commence a mid-Atlantic region tour and expand outward from that core. The band has found much success as a DIY indie act but is aiming to take it to the next level. Blue Nevada is currently working with A & R Select, the world’s leading independent artist development firm, based out of Los Angeles, CA.
Wherever they go, these musicians hope to spread the fun and good vibes that lie at the center of the band’s sound. “We write songs about girls, good times, bad times – anything that creates a passionate emotion comes out in the poetry and music.” And, the band notes, these artists don’t shy away from social, spiritual and political issues now and then. . . .

Equal parts Country and Rock, with a grassroots style and a beautiful, lilting, yet powerful voice, Mindy Miller is an unmistakable presence on stage. Her songwriting skills coupled with an experienced soulfulness seem to almost magically transcend her youth

Skribe travels from town to town in a blue hearse spreading his own blend of garage folk: An unpretentious soulful sub-genre that draws from roots Americana & the 60's garage rock spirit. You may have seen skribe at Rhythm n Blooms Fest 2015 (Knoxville, TN) or the mainstage at FloydFest 2015. *skribe proudly plays Merican Canjos & Kazoobie Kazoos!

"an eclectic, ultra smooth blend of earthy, gritty, modern folk music for the soul from the soul. A band that I can work and drink to all day." - Katch 1 Natural Koncept

Skribe’s non-stop live presence has ignited musical collaborations with the areas most skilled musicians & generated a cultured following. This amazing scene helped crowdfund & launch skribe’s recent 12″ LP. The fine tuned production of ‘Less Is More’ showcases the artists’ growth & raw soulful dynamic. Whatever the fidelity, skribe’s blooming creative career should not be considered a rolling stone…it’s a boulder.

In 2009, Skribe broke into the Maryland folk scene with a rusty crowbar & released a soundtrack of 14 growly mantras – Doin’ The Dirt. A raw do-it-yourself guide to garage folk.

Cheshi

Cheshi

Fronted by songwriter Ashli Cheshire (the bands namesake), this queer, eco-driven pop-rock deathlord, sings about the challenges and awakenings that are born within a deep need for change and renewal in our society.
Cheshi's concepts arise from confrontations with hatred, bigotry, homophobia, the destruction of the earth, the right-wing agenda, above all: honestly with oneself.
All of this is woven in to an illustrious and powerful platform, screamed or lulled into an experience that brings a well of emotion from an audience.

Lifted by the musical prowess of Trevor Williams (a Connecticut native who has been performing professionally since he was 15, also a music teacher), Matt Jackowski (performing bass since his teens, in a wide variety of styles of which he says the heart stays at the center of it all), and Evan Owens (who's drumming style is inspired by Black
Sabbath and Madonna).

Described most recently as “a large pack of twizzlers, mixed with a long black cloak, and a pinch of old stairs”.

Their first EP, self-titled “Cheshi”, was released in February of 2017.

The band currently resides in Frederick, MD.

Marzy Maddox, Hostile Array, Sideshow Cinema

Marzy Maddox is a progressive rock/metal trio based out of Frederick, MD.
New full length record “Catching Up To Massimo” OUT NOW ON ALL PLATFORMS!

Based in Frederick, Maryland, Hostile Array formed in early 2017 by brothers Brendan Frey and Garrison Frey, along with longtime friends Hector Fernandez, Fredy Menjivar, and Andrew Markle. The band released their first single, “Devoid”, in July of 2017, which focused on the tragedy of civilian casualties in the Middle East, and US intervention policies. Pulling from a variety of influences such as Underoath, Norma Jean, and Architects, the band delivers a diverse and unique blend of sounds, while maintaining a message that questions the status quo of political and social issues.

In June 2018, the band independently released their debut self-titled album, described by Metal Hammer Magazine as a "well-balanced blend of heavy and catchy post-hardcore fueled by fiercely political lyrics".

Sideshow Cinema is a metallic hardcore band based out of Washington, D.C. that released their debut album “Palace” on Flesh and Bone Records earlier this year. Blending chaotic and catchy riffs, bludgeoning drum-work, and commanding vocals, the band crafts songs that pay homage to their influences while injecting their own unique ideas.

FFO: Converge, Every Time I Die, Great American Ghost

“Sideshow Cinema entirely proves their worth in not only the DC hardcore scene but the metalcore movement as a whole.” - Maxwell Heilman, Amped Sound

Box Era

Risen from the ashes of keg-fueled house parties and sweaty bars of College Park, MD, Box Era has planted itself as a staple in the up-and-coming DMV music scene. Creating a jam-inspired electro-pop and funk blend, Box Era’s music arms you with every tool necessary to go talk to that special someone you’ve been eyeing up. You’ll find yourself dancing the night away, shaking hands with CEOs, and experiencing the juiciest sweet-and-sour jamwich of your life.

With a debut EP behind them, Box Era is gearing up for an explosive rise to power. The band has supported national headliners and headlined renowned venues up and down the east coast. The party is only going to grow. There’s a saxophone, a talkbox, and two pairs of glasses. There’s magic, youth, and the most unique sound you’ve heard since The Bangles. Box Era is the story of five boys wandering the halls of Xanadu, forever in search of sweet cream.

DJ Two Teks (Bang Bang)

AJ Naylor, also known as “DJ Two Teks” I Started DJIN in 1993 with my best friend Shannon who bought a pair of turntables and a mixer from a auction. We sat it up in his bedroom where we started to teach ourselves how to DJ and we became addicted to learning how to become DJ’s. A few years later I bought my own tables and mixer . Just like most DJ’s I started out in my bedroom with just a handful of records that I got from my uncle and other family members. I practiced every day for hours on end; scratching, mixing and beat juggling trying to be like some of the DJ’s I grew up listening to.

Moving forward. I started DJIN in night clubs in the late 90’ early 2000’s from Frederick MD to DC and Baltimore. In 2004 I attended Scratch DJ Academy in NYC and while attending I started teaching beginners lessons at Scratch DJ Academy. A few years later I found myself teaching at the Frederick Rock School.

In 2008 I started a party called BANGBANG at Cafe Nola in Frederick MD, it was the first true dance party in Frederick. I would play all music genres for the perfect sound. The party grew across the DMV and had DJ’s from all over attend. It’s 2018 and it’s still Frederick’ s number one dance party.

Marshal Fuzz, an original DC based rock band that evokes the fuzzy blues rock tradition of classic rock bands such as Black Sabbath, The Jimi Hendrix Experience and Cream. Their sound has been described as a mesh of Black Sabbath and Muddy Waters. With Sulaiman Rahman on guitar and vocals, Vince Vezzi on bass, and Nick Rodousakis on drums they combine aggressive guitar riffs, extended live jams, soulful vocals and a tight rhythm section to capture the classic power trio sound with an original contemporary twist. What a rock band should be!! Formed in 2014, they spent most of the year in the studio writing material and developing their sound.
